Dietary guidelines expected to promote whole milk

Robert F. Kennedy Jr., secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, has pledged to end what he calls an “attack” on whole milk, cheese and yogurt. Nutrition experts say the evidence against full-fat dairy has weakened in recent years, with studies showing little difference between high- and low-fat options in terms of heart health, and in some cases, potential benefits from full-fat products.
Still, leading researchers caution that the data remains limited and inconsistent. The federal advisory committee that reviewed the science recommended keeping existing low-fat dairy guidance, but Mr. Kennedy has signaled he may ignore those findings.
The forthcoming guidelines could reshape public health messaging and influence what foods are promoted in schools and federal nutrition programs.
