Digital ACT program could benefit patients with fibromyalgia

Researchers have found that 71% of patients undergoing a self-guided digital acceptance and commitment therapy, or ACT program, experienced improvements in their fibromyalgia symptoms.

In the phase III PROSPER-FM trial, published in The Lancet, the researchers evaluated the efficacy of the self-guided digital ACT program at reducing the symptom burden in 275 patients with fibromyalgia.

After a follow-up of 12 weeks, the researchers found that a greater proportion of the patients in the digital ACT group demonstrated improvements in their Patient Global Impression of Change scale, Revised Fibromyalgia Impact Questionnaire total score, weekly pain intensity and interference, fatigue, sleep disturbances, depression and fibromyalgia management accessibility compared with those in the control group who didn’t undergo the digital ACT program.
