E. coli detected in ground beef products
The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced that Wolverine Packing has recalled more than 165,000 pounds of ground beef products.
The recall comes after reports of E. coli contamination were raised by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture. The ground beef was shipped to restaurants across the United States and at least 15 patients have become ill.
The potentially contaminated products have a “use-by” date of Nov. 14 (if fresh) and a production date of Oct. 22 (if frozen). Those who believe they ingested the contaminated ground beef products were advised to watch for symptoms such as dehydration, bloody diarrhea and abdominal cramps and visit their health care providers if they experience severe symptoms. Restaurants were urged to throw away or return the products.
