Effects of kiwi fruit on skin

...

Kiwi fruit consumption may improve skin health and function.

In a pilot study published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, researchers analyzed skin and blood samples from 38 patients for dermal and plasma ascorbate levels prior to and following a dietary intervention involving the daily consumption of two kiwi fruit for a period of eight weeks.

The regular intake of kiwi fruit was found to improve whole-skin ascorbate concentrations, skin density and epidermal cell proliferation in those with low baseline plasma ascorbate levels. Further, skin ascorbate levels were positively correlated with plasma ascorbate levels.

The findings demonstrated that increasing the intake of kiwi fruit could be an effective strategy in enhancing dermal ascorbate levels and skin function.
