FDA authorizes nonemergency use of at-home dual COVID-19, flu test
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced that it has granted marketing authorization for use of the combination COVID-19 and influenza test without the required emergency use declaration.
The over-the-counter test is designed for at-home self-administration in individuals aged 14 years and older experiencing respiratory symptoms and is capable of detecting proteins present in both disease-causing viruses. Individuals aged 2 to 13 years require adults to administer the tests.
The FDA hopes its authorization can improve access to COVID-19 and flu infection diagnoses. Individuals who continue to experience lingering symptoms of either infection after testing negative were advised to seek medical attention.
