Female doctors see lower patient mortality rates
A recent study explored the impact of physician sex on hospital outcomes for patients using Medicare data from 2016 to 2019.
The findings revealed both female and male patients exhibited lower mortality and readmission rates when treated by female physicians.
The benefit was more pronounced for female patients. For these patients, the difference between being treated by female and male physicians was "large and clinically meaningful," according to the study.
