How prevalent are toothaches in dental outpatients?

A study published in the journal Cureus aimed to determine the prevalence of toothaches in patients attending the outpatient department of a dental institution in India.
The goal was to “identify the clinical and behavioral factors associated with toothaches to support the development of targeted preventive and treatment strategies for this population.” Over the course of six months the cross-sectional study evaluated 6,732 patients in the outpatient department, collecting data through a structured questionnaire and clinical examinations.
The prevalence of toothaches was reported to be 58%, according to the study, highlighting the “multifactorial nature of toothache, with strong links to age, sex, oral hygiene habits, lifestyle behaviors, and socioeconomic status.”
