How to submit comments on new student loan forgiveness plan

The U.S. Department of Education published the draft text of President Joe Biden’s proposed student loan forgiveness plan on April 17, and the public has 30 days to comment on it.

The plan would target specific groups of borrowers, including those whose balances have ballooned because of interest; those who would be eligible for relief under some repayment plans but have not enrolled; those who have been repaying their loans for at least 20 years; and those who have attended programs that left them with too much debt compared with their post-graduation earnings.

The public has until May 17 to submit their comments to the Federal Register for review by the Education Department.

The American Dental Association continues to advocate for student loan debt relief, including legislation that would lower interest rates overall and pause the accrual of interest and payments on federal student loans for dental students in residency.
