Income-driven repayment recertification deadline extended

The U.S. Department of Education announced the deadline to recertify income-driven repayment plans has been extended to Nov. 1. Student loan borrowers on this plan will not have to update income and family size until September.

The requirement for borrowers to provide income and family size information was originally paused during the COVID-19 pandemic but will resume in order to keep payment plans up to date.

Previously, recertification for income-driven repayment plans was slated to begin in March, but those who missed the date to recertify will keep their plan for now. The payments that went up will revert to the previous monthly amount until the new recertification deadline.
