Infused water can have adverse health effects

Although infused water is often used as a healthier alternative to soda, the beverage may come with unexpected health risks. Experts cited in a blog post from Inscriber Magazine said infused water may incorporate acidic fruits that can erode tooth enamel, increase tooth sensitivity and raise the risk of cavities if consumed regularly.

The experts also suggested that infused water can be contaminated with certain bacteria like E. coli, Salmonella, and Listeria; contain high amounts of natural sugar or pesticides; and cause overhydration, water intoxication and allergic reactions.

The experts recommended that Americans who desire to continue drinking infused water should use a straw, rinse their mouth with regular water after consuming the beverage and refrigerate the product when it’s not in use.
