Is fatigue common in certain patients with rheumatoid arthritis?
The prevalence of fatigue in female patients aged over 50 years with rheumatoid arthritis may be high.
In a study published in Frontiers in Medicine, investigators evaluated the prevalence of fatigue in 191 female patients aged over 50 years with rheumatoid arthritis compared with age-matched controls.
Compared with the controls, a higher number of patients with rheumatoid arthritis experienced fatigue. Further, fatigue scores were correlated with biomarkers of rheumatoid arthritis, demonstrating that fatigue may have been impacted by disease activity as well as mental and physical health.
Clinicians were advised to utilize systematic fatigue assessment and targeted strategies to address fatigue in this patient population.
