Kindergartners need to pass dental health assessments

A new law in Michigan requires children heading into kindergarten in the 2024-25 school year to have an oral health assessment.

The law was passed in late December.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services created a new program to help with implementation, as it will be phased across the state over a three-year period.

The dental assessments are free through local health departments or may be performed by private dental offices.
