Lawsuit filed against e-cigarette companies

...

New York State Attorney General Letitia James has filed a lawsuit against 13 major e-cigarette manufacturers and distributors for marketing flavored nicotine-containing products to youths.

E-cigarette use among youths — particularly high school-age students — has increased significantly over the past decade, raising the risk of irreversible lung damage, according to a statement from the Office of the New York State Attorney General. The lawsuit alleges that the companies violated multiple New York state and federal laws protecting youths from being targeted by nicotine advertisements. None of the manufacturers or distributors have received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration to market their fruit- and candy-flavored e-cigarettes.

Ms. James is seeking hundreds of millions of dollars in damages, penalties and disgorgement of revenues; funds to address the youth vaping crisis; and a statewide ban on flavored vapes.
