LGBTQ youth attempt suicide at alarming rate

A national survey by the Trevor Project, a leading suicide prevention organization for LGBTQ youth, found that more than one in 10 young people in the United States who identify as LGBTQ attempted suicide in 2023.

The survey included responses from 18,000 people aged 13 to 24.

More than one-third of LGBTQ young people, or 39%, seriously considered suicide in the past year.

That number was even higher for transgender and nonbinary youth at 46%.

Of all LGBTQ youth, 12% attempted suicide in the past year.
