Link between ultraprocessed foods, active psoriasis
A new study shines a light on the connection between ultraprocessed food consumption and active psoriasis.
In a study published in JAMA Dermatology, the investigators examined the outcomes of more than 18,500 participants from the Nutri-Net-Santé cohort study.
The investigators found that the participants who consumed greater amounts of ultraprocessed foods had higher rates of active psoriasis compared with those who consumed less of the foods. Those with active psoriasis were more likely to be female and have obesity and less likely to partake in high-intensity physical activity. Further, the rates of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease and inflammatory rheumatism were more prevalent among those with active psoriasis compared with those without the condition.
