Public health officials reported that the infection rate of measles is continuing to rise in Texas and New Mexico, predominantly among unvaccinated individuals.

In 2024, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recorded 285 measles infections across the United States, according to a news article from Reuters. The number of cases reported in just Texas and New Mexico has surpassed the total number of measles cases in the United States in 2024, and the outbreak has reportedly spread to Oklahoma.

The CDC emphasized the safety and efficacy of the measles, mumps and rubella vaccine in preventing measles.
