Microsoft AI tool aims to help rural hospitals with finances
Microsoft has introduced an artificial intelligence-based tool to aid rural hospitals.
Systemic financial pressures often plague rural hospitals, according to a news report from Healthcare Finance. For instance, there are high costs associated with handling denied Medicare, Medicaid and commercial insurance claims. Claims denials are also nearly twice as likely to occur in rural hospitals compared with in urban hospitals. A recent study revealed that more than 700 rural hospitals face the threat of closure as a result of financial challenges such as claims denials.
The new AI tool was designed to recommend actions users can take to resolve denied claims, accelerate the recovery of reimbursements and learn from the outcomes of denied claims resolutions.
The tool is part of a broader Microsoft initiative to create opportunities in health care and support rural hospitals. Through a partnership between Microsoft and Rural Health AI Innovation Lab, the AI tool will be free for all health care providers.
