More patients using telemedicine to access mental health care
More than half of mental health appointments — 55% — are being conducted remotely, mainly via videoconferencing, rather than in person, according to a report in the journal Annals of Internal Medicine.
Telemedicine enables patients to obtain care via technology, most often a cellphone, video chat, computer or tablet.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, in-person outpatient mental health visits decreased and telephone and video visits increased, researchers found.
