Ohio dentist retiring at age 85

Dr. Dale Hazelbaker, an Ohio dentist, is retiring at the age of 85 after a 61-year career. Despite his anticipation of retirement, he acknowledges potential challenges in adjusting to the change. Hazelbaker served in the Air Force and established his dental practice in Springfield in 1966, remaining at the same location for over five decades.

Originally planning to retire at 65, Hazelbaker's decision was influenced by the unexpected death of his colleague, Dr. William Lord, last summer. This tragedy prompted him to reconsider his own life's direction, ultimately leading to his retirement decision.

Known for his active lifestyle, Dr. Hazelbaker has been a runner, completing a marathon at age 60 and a long-distance cyclist. He and his wife share a passion for tennis, scuba diving, horse riding and community involvement. Hazelbaker's retirement is marked by a commitment to staying active and embracing new adventures, including skiing and extended bicycling trips.
