One-piece zirconia implants: 10-year outcomes

...

Investigators assessed the results of a zirconia implant system in patients undergoing single-tooth replacement.

In a study published in Clinical Oral Implants Research, the investigators analyzed the implant survival and peri-implant soft tissue parameters of 66 one-piece zirconia implants restored with all-ceramic crowns in a group of 65 patients.

After a follow-up of 10 years, the investigators identified a survival rate of more than 73% and an average marginal bone loss of 1.09 millimeters. Further, probing depth, attachment level and bleeding worsened throughout the study period.

As a result of the poor outcomes, the investigators advised against the routine use of the one-piece zirconia implants.
