Optimizing sinonasal mass diagnosis, management

Researchers examined effective practices during the evaluation and diagnosis of sinonasal masses.

In an expert consensus study published in JAMA Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, a group of researchers comprising 25 multidisciplinary experts in comprehensive otolaryngology, head and neck surgery, rhinology, neurosurgery and medical oncology used 1990 to 2025 data from the PubMed database to identify gaps in sinonasal mass guidelines.

They developed a set of 22 consensus-driven statements across several topics — including initial evaluation, biopsy, imaging, pathologic assessment, multidisciplinary coordination and treatment decision-making.

The researchers hope their recommendations can serve as guidance for clinicians diagnosing sinonasal masses and lead to improved patient outcomes.
