Orthodontic tooth movement and root canal-treated teeth

A retrospective study published in the Journal of Endodontics assessed the influence of fixed orthodontic tooth movement on the outcomes of root canal-treated teeth.

The study evaluated 169 root canal-treated teeth of 100 patients who had undergone fixed orthodontic treatment. Variables related to the prognosis of root canal treatment were included, such as age, gender, tooth position, root canal treatment quality, coronal restoration quality, periodontal condition, orthodontic traction distance and orthodontic rotation angle.

The results showed that orthodontic tooth movement did not affect the prognosis of root canal-treated teeth, with the study noting that "the quality of the endodontic treatment and coronal restoration both affected the prognosis" of root canal-treated teeth.
