Poll finds mental health treatment needs more attention
Three out of four Americans think mental health issues are identified and treated worse than physical health issues, according to a survey from West Health and Gallup.
Overall, 38% of U.S. adults believe mental health issues are handled “much worse” and 37% believe they are handled “somewhat worse” than physical health issues.
Only 4% think mental health issues are treated “somewhat better,” with 1% saying “much better.”
Affordability and difficulty in finding a provider are the top barriers to obtaining treatment for a mental or emotional health condition, according to the survey.
