Pregnancy outcomes in patients with active psoriatic arthritis

...

Pregnant individuals with active psoriatic arthritis could be at an increased risk of adverse pregnancy outcomes.

In a study published in RMD Open, investigators used data from the RevNatus, a Norwegian nationwide quality register operated by The Norwegian National Network for Pregnancy and Rheumatic Diseases, and the Medical Birth Registry of Norway to examine whether the presence of psoriatic arthritis was associated with the risk of preeclampsia, gestational hypertension, preterm birth and fetal growth among a group of 109 pregnant individuals with psoriatic arthritis and more than 575,000 controls who had singleton births between 2019 and 2019.

The investigators found that those with active psoriatic arthritis were more likely to experience preeclampsia and gestational hypertension compared with controls and patients with inactive psoriatic arthritis. There was no correlation between active psoriatic arthritis and either preterm birth or abnormal fetal growth.

The findings suggested that better managing active psoriatic arthritis could help lead to better pregnancy outcomes.
