Professor receives grant to study tooth damage
A University at Buffalo professor has received a $420,000 grant to study strategies for repairing damaged teeth.
Camila Sabatini, D.D.S., Ph.D., an associate professor of restorative dentistry in the School of Dental Medicine, said in a news release that her team will investigate ways to use stem cells of dental origin to promote the repair of damaged teeth, potentially avoiding the need for a root canal.
Dr. Sabatini received the Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program award from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. The award expanded in scope to include dentistry in 2012 and nursing in 2015.
