Program exposes students to dental careers

A program addressing the dental workforce shortage — particularly in historically underrepresented communities — launched in May in Tukwila, Washington, following a successful pilot by Delta Dental of Washington.

The program is designed to help students become the next generation of dentists within historically underrepresented communities. It provides a two-day career introduction and workshop for middle and high school students, featuring a pathway to a potential career in the dental field.

“The exposure to dentistry through this program has ignited a passion in our scholars, many of whom had previously viewed such careers as unattainable,” said LaTanya R. Parker, principal of one of the involved schools. “I believe empowerment, opportunity and access are crucial in supporting scholars in achieving their post-secondary goals in dentistry or other professional fields.”
