Prosthetics in anodontia: Long-term outcomes
Dental implants could improve long-term quality of life in patients with anodontia.
In a longitudinal study published in the Journal of Dentistry, investigators assessed the oral health-related quality of life and aesthetic satisfaction of seven patients with complete anodontia who underwent implant-supported fixed prosthetic rehabilitation or received overdentures and completed questionnaires.
After a follow-up of about eight years, the investigators found that measures of the patients’ oral health-related quality of life and satisfaction with dental aesthetics demonstrated sustained improvements posttreatment.
The findings supported the timely treatment of anodontia to enhance functional capacity and minimize psychosocial challenges.
