Racial, ethnic disparities in health care persist across entire country
Racial and ethnic disparities in health care exist in every state, according to a new analysis from the Commonwealth Fund.
Researchers found health system performance is worse for people of color compared to white people.
According to the report, “The COVID-19 pandemic only made things worse. Its disproportionate impact on Black, Hispanic, and [American Indian/Alaska Native] people caused a sharper decline in average life expectancy since 2020 for these groups compared to white people.”
Six states had better-than-average health system performance among all racial or ethnic groups, including Rhode Island, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Hawaii, New Hampshire and New York, the report said.
