Relationship between periodontitis, intestinal diseases

Periodontitis could be correlated with intestinal diseases.
In a systematic review and meta-analysis published in Oral Diseases, investigators used the PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library and Web of Science databases to identify studies exploring the association between periodontitis and intestinal diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease and colorectal cancer.
The investigators discovered that patients with IBD, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and colorectal cancer were more likely to develop periodontitis. They suggested that addressing periodontitis could potentially help manage systemic conditions.
