Relationship between tablet use and emotional regulation in young children
Investigators have examined whether tablet use in early childhood could influence emotional regulation.
In a study published in JAMA Pediatrics, the investigators asked 315 parents of preschool-aged children to complete questionnaires regarding their child’s behavior between the ages of 3.5 and 5.5 years.
The investigators found that the children who used tablets at the age of 3.5 years were more likely to experience anger and frustration at the age of 4.5 years — which consequently led to increased tablet use at the age of 5.5 years.
The findings indicated that early childhood tablet use may contribute to emotional dysregulation and increased tablet use.
