Silver diamine fluoride effective in fending off caries

A clinical trial by researchers at NYU College of Dentistry found that the application of silver diamine fluoride was noninferior to dental sealants in keeping tooth decay at bay in a school cavity prevention and treatment program.

The study, which followed more than 4,000 elementary school students for four years, showed that silver diamine fluoride is effective and can increase access to dental care.

The study showed that silver diamine fluoride is very useful – and ‘non inferior” to sealants, but they are two different strategies to be used at different times.
