States with the most student loans discharged under SAVE
Under the Biden administration’s Saving on a Valuable Education plan, 153,000 more borrowers were notified Feb. 21 their student loan debt would be canceled.
The states with the largest number of borrowers who received automatic student loan discharges were Texas, Florida and California.
About 7.5 million borrowers are enrolled in the SAVE plan, an income-driven repayment plan that provides for the discharge of student loan debt for borrowers with an original balance of $12,000 or less who have been in repayment for 10 years.
The American Dental Association is continuing to advocate for student loan debt relief legislation, including legislation that would lower interest rates overall and pause the accrual of interest and payments on federal student loans for dental students in residency.
