Third annual Dental Health Summer Institute seeks to spark interest in dentistry
Old Dominion University collaborated with Delta Dental to host the third annual Dental Health Summer Institute, according to a report from WTKR.
During the program, high school students from Virginia were provided the opportunity to examine teeth, set up X-ray machines and receive information about the dental profession.
Those who led the program indicated that the Dental Health Summer Institute is part of an initiative to increase the number of students interested in dentistry and hygiene in Virginia, enhance diversity in dentistry and increase access to quality dental care among residents of the state.
“Dentistry is important because the mouth is connected to the rest of the body. It’s the window to overall health,” said Jessica Suedbeck, assistant professor and senior clinic coordinator at the Old Dominion University School of Dental Hygiene.
