‘Top Chef’ finalist diagnosed with tongue cancer

Shirley Chung, a former competitor and two-time finalist of the reality show Top Chef, has been diagnosed with tongue cancer.

In an article published in Yahoo Life, Ms. Chung revealed she is undergoing an intensive treatment regimen of chemotherapy to combat the disease. She shared to social media that starting in December 2023, she experienced a series of oral issues — including severely biting her tongue, fracturing a tooth and having it replaced with an implant, developing mouth ulcers.

After visiting an oral surgeon, Ms. Chung was diagnosed with stage IV tongue cancer. Following several chemotherapy sessions, she revealed her tumor has shrunk, and she can talk and eat better than before.

Although she has a long road to recovery, Ms. Chung said she is a fighter and will focus her attention on her treatment and recovery.
