Trader Joe's recalls basil following salmonella outbreak

Trader Joe's has recalled fresh basil that was sold to consumers in 29 states and Washington, D.C., following an investigation that found the product was connected to a multistate salmonella outbreak.

Customers are encouraged to throw away any 2.5-ounce plastic clamshell packages bearing a label reading Infinite Herbs Organic Basil that were purchased between Feb. 1 and April 6.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced that 12 people in seven states have been infected with a strain of salmonella, with seven of the eight people stating they had been exposed to the Trader Joe's basil before getting sick.
