The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs revealed how researchers are using 3D printing to advance dental care in U.S. veterans.
In recent years, the VA has transitioned from a traditional dentistry to digital dentistry model. The agency explained that it has used digital dentistry to develop personalized dental prosthetics and restore the smiles of veterans with specific dental needs. Through 3D-printing methods, researchers can digitally build crowns, bridges, dentures, nightguards and implants in order to speed up treatment turnaround times.
As VA clinics continue to integrate digital techniques into their routine care and facilitate the transition to digital dentistry in other clinics, the agency hopes to improve access to dental care among U.S. veterans.
