Treating postoperative tooth pain with green tea

...

Green tea extract may offer pain relief in pediatric patients undergoing tooth extraction.

In a study published in the International Journal of Clinical Pediatric Dentistry, researchers evaluated the efficacy of a pain relief strategy using either green tea extract- or saline-infused gauze following orthodontic premolar extraction among 44 patients aged 12 to 17 years.

Compared with saline, the researchers found that green tea extract effectively minimized pain when applied near the injection site. The patients used fewer analgesics and reported lower pain scores when responding to pain managed with green tea extract.

The use of green tea extract could potentially provide an alternative to usual pain relief methods in patients undergoing tooth extraction.
