Uncovering pain-blocking mechanisms in paracetamol

...

New research may have elucidated the mechanism of action of paracetamol (acetaminophen) in treating peripheral pain.

In a study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, researchers examined the peripheral mechanisms of action of paracetamol.

The researchers revealed that a metabolite of the drug, AM404, appeared to act on peripheral sensory neurons by inhibiting two sodium channels to block the transmission of pain signals.

The researchers hope their findings can help identify new treatments targeting peripheral pain.
