Update on general practitioner dentist earnings
The ADA Health Policy Institute provided insights into the earnings of general practitioner dentists in 2023.
Researchers found that after increasing in 2021 as dentistry recovered from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, the average net income for general practitioner dentists — adjusted for inflation — remained mostly unchanged between 2022 and 2023. In the longer term, the researchers identified a slight decline in net income, likely the result of practice expenses increasing faster than revenues.
Postpandemic, general practitioner dentists have reported being busier and working longer hours. Taken together, the latest data indicated a continued ‘margin compression’ in the dental sector.
