US life expectancy on the rise again

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention released a study indicating U.S. life expectancy has increased for the first time in two years.

According to the report, life expectancy for the U.S. population in 2022 was 77.5 years, a 1.1-year increase from 2021. U.S. life expectancy dropped in 2020 and 2021, which experts said was driven by the COVID-19 pandemic and drug overdoses.

The study notes the 10 leading causes of death in 2022 remained the same as in 2021, with some causes changing ranks. Heart disease and cancer remained the top two leading causes in 2022.
