US nears deal to fund Moderna's bird flu vaccine trial

The federal government could be nearing an agreement to fund a trial of Moderna's bird flu vaccine as the dairy cow outbreak continues.

Drug company Moderna told Reuters it was in discussions with the government on advancing its vaccine but did not confirm the funding.

Federal funding from the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority could come as soon as June and would include a promise to procure doses if late-stage trials are successful.

Moderna is testing the experimental vaccine against several strains of the virus, including the currently active H5N1 variant.
