Using coded healing abutment in dental restorations
A coded healing abutment system could streamline the digital workflow in patients with dental restorations.
In a study published in the Journal of Dentistry, researchers examined the outcomes of 103 patients with fixed implant-supported, computer-aided design/computer-aided manufacturing-assisted zirconia restorations. The patients underwent intraoral scans of their novel coded healing abutments as well as assessments of the restorations’ quality, fit and occlusal and interproximal contacts; hard and soft tissue stability and satisfaction.
After one year, the researchers found that the restorations presented with high satisfactory scores, positive marginal fits, effective occlusal and interproximal contacts, excellent hard and soft tissue stability, few complications. They also identified a high overall restoration success rate — demonstrating the reliability and precision of the novel coded healing abutment system.
The researchers noted that further studies with a larger patient population and longer follow-up period may be needed to validate the findings.
