What constitutes a low-carb diet?

A new study researched more than 500 articles about low-carb diets and found there are disagreements about what the term "low carb" means. The study's principal investigator, Taylor Wallace, Ph.D., CEO of Think Healthy Group and an adjunct professor of nutrition and food studies at George Mason University, said even though there is a large amount of research, scientists often don't have a clear, definitive opinion. 

The range of studies published between 2002 and 2022 found most trials defined low-carb as having 100 grams or less of carbohydrates daily. But many also were stricter, with carbs taking up only 40-60 grams per day.
