Why back to school prep should include dental visits

As children prepare to return to school this fall, some dentists are encouraging them to place dental checkups on the to-do list, according to a news story from United Press International.

Although children are growing and should thus get their teeth checked, it may be especially important for those who wear mouthguards while playing sports. Growth spurts, losing teeth and having new ones emerge can all change the fit of a mouthguard. As a result, dental checkups may be necessary to ensure that the mouthguards are the right fit.

Further, children’s teeth should be checked regularly for possible cavities and to remind them the importance of good oral hygiene habits.
