3 things you missed in government this week

Budget reconciliation bill, fluoride supplements, ADA Board of Trustees letter

...

“Three Things You Missed in Government This Week” is designed to offer a way to stay informed on the topics of the week. These updates are meant to offer brief details on legislative or regulatory topics to keep dentists engaged and up to date. To explore the ADA’s latest advocacy efforts, more information is available at ADA.org/Advocacy.

1.    The American Dental Association sent an Advocacy Update to members on the implications of President Donald Trump’s One Big Beautiful Bill Act, H.R. 1. The update expressed support for certain provisions, such as the pass-through entity tax deduction, and concern for other provisions, such as those negatively impacting the dental workforce and access to care.

2.    ADA leaders are emphasizing the evidence-based effectiveness and safety of fluoride supplements in comments submitted to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. This comes after the FDA’s request for input on the use of orally ingestible unapproved prescription drug products containing fluoride in the pediatric population. In its six-part submission, the ADA said the majority of peer-reviewed, widely accepted scientific evidence does not support the idea that fluoride ingestion at recommended levels is harmful.

3.    The ADA Board of Trustees emailed all members on July 10 about the state of the Association’s finances and technology upgrades. They provided details on the current state of the ADA’s reserve fund and the status of the association management system. ADA News repurposed their message into an open letter.
